Research

The motivation for much of my research is based from my interest in tropical cyclones, specifically with regards to the genesis stage of these phenomena. I have employed a statistical technique, known as linear discriminant analysis (LDA), to identify features that can be used to distinguish between developing and non-developing vortices in the eastern Pacific basin. Using this method I have found a set of storm-centered variables, which have successfully classified both developing and non-developing vortices during the first 48 hours of their lifecycles, and I am currently working on testing the predictive skill of the LDA algorithm for genesis in the same basin.
